These are some of the most frequently most asked questions. Some of these refer to our site and some of them refer to lighting in general:

1. What is CRI?

CRI is an acronym for Color Rendering Index. It is the measure of the ability of a light source to display the colors of various objects in comparison with an ideal or natural light source.

2. What is color temperature?

Color temperature (also known as CCT - co-related color temperature) refers to the measure of white light; often associated with how "warm" or "cool" a light source looks. Colour temperature is stated in degrees Kelvin (K) takes its measurement from heating a black body radiator (such as a piece of tungsten) until it is white hot, and the hue of light emitted from it is matched to the colour from the lamp. Quite opposite to common perception of higher equals hotter, if a lamp has a 3000 Kelvin rating it is actually rated as "warmer" than a lamp that has a Kelvin rating of 4000 which is actually "cooler."

3. What is R9 rating and why is it important?

As explained above in the CRI section, as to the measurement of values of how well objects are displayed under light sources - R9 values are NOT actually included in the measurement of CRI values. Why is that a bad thing? Good question. R9 simply put, is the measure of RED in objects. Fruits, vegetables, meat and fish benefit greatly from lighting sources with high R9 values as it will show the foods in their true color.
